Carters and Martins Visit {Day 8}

 Saturday we packed in a day of exploring Edinburgh, and let me tell you, it was waaaay too short! What a cool city it is! It feels really different from London with lots more gorgeous stone work and very tall, close buildings. It felt so old and like it was brimming with history. I would love to go back!
 The street our rental flat was on.

Queen Mary's Bath House in front of Holyrood Palace.

 After lunch, we went to Holyrood Palace where the Queen stays when she is in Scotland on business.

 The Palace had a good dress-up section.

It is attached to the ruins of the Holyrood Abbey. So beautiful!

After Holyrood, we hiked up the Royal Mile to the Castle. Sadly, we got a late-ish start, so we had to hoof it and didn't get to enjoy stopping along the way. Even without stops, there was so much to see!

Edinburgh Castle is incredible! It is built high on a rocky hill with the natural rocks and man-placed stones blending seamlessly. It's a huge fortress with a spectacular view out over the bay and the city.

 The girls got wands at the gift shop and Ben got a wooden sword. They loved those things!

 The glass you see is the top of Waverly Station and you can see the castle on the hill top in the background.

Rob, being the brave soul that he is, wanted to try haggis and since we had eaten a large, late lunch we didn't stop for dinner until we got home and sent some out to the grocery for dinner. We got him some haggis and cooked it up. It totally was not as bad as I was expecting. Not something I want to eat again soon, but not gag-tastic either.

We also got some scotch eggs to try. They're a hard boiled egg wrapped in sausage and breaded. Another interesting eat!

 I love these two pictures...it was not as bad as their faces make it seem :)
