Carters and Martins {Day 6 and 7}

 Thursday morning came quickly for our tired bodies, but we were really excited to get packed and head north to Lake Windermere and Edinburgh!

We tried to pack light, but it was a lot of stuff to haul for the 9 of us, including car seats!

  Our train to the Lake District was nice, but sadly, we missed our connecting train to Winderemere, and it was cold and rainy. We were sad.

 The Lake District is incredibly beautiful. We were going nuts taking pictures through the rainy train windows. It was so picturesque - green rolling hills broken by streams, stacked stone walls and low hedges. Often the fields were dotted with white sheep and their baby lambs. It was incredible I tell ya!

We opted to walk to our hotel instead of trying to find taxis that would fit us all and our junk. It was a tad rainy, but I love Windermere. It is so picturesque. I love it!

After walking around trying to find a good pub, we were directed to one by a random stranger. It was delicious! The Elleray, it was called. So cute and the food was great.

 Ben was a little sad about missing his naps and getting dragged all over creation and being really hungry :)

Sticky toffee pudding...mmmm!

We hiked home in a freezing rainstrom and were pretty exhausted by the time we made it home.

In case you've ever wondered what an English breakfast looks like, here you go:
That's (what they call) bacon, sausage, baked beans, eggs, mushrooms and (here is missing) the cooked tomato.

Our hotel was a little family run B&B called Lonsdale House.

The next morning we explored Windermere a bit, enjoying is quirky beauty. It was really, really cold though so we made a stop at a local sporting goods store to score some good deals on warmer and better suited for the rain gear before we set off :)

 I had to include this one too. Ruby really did a good job on the trip. It's just so funny to me how many times we caught her having a fit on camera. That poor white coat...

We got back on a train to a nearby town where we could rent a car to have our very first English driving experience.

Rob was so incredible with driving. We had rented a manual because it was tons cheaper, so this guy (and Dave) figured out how to drive on the opposite side of the road than they were used to, all the while shifting with the opposite hand! He kept his cool (way better than I did), even with the GPS leading us on a crazy scenic route through towns and tight turns and very narrow roads!
 This little miracle happened! 3 kids asleep at once!

 We got in to our flat in Edinburgh late and tired, but so excited to be there!
