Utah State Fair

Last night Rob and Grace and I went to the Utah State Fair. We had lots of fun looking at exhibits and animals.

We saw the cows. Who knew that there were so many different types of cows. There were 3 barns full of different types of cows. We saw dairy cows (pictured), cattle and beef. Pretty exciting stuff... My favorite one's name was Chiquita Rosita. She wasn't so chiquita because she was fairly gigantic!

We also saw the sheep exhibit. They were awfully cute.

About this time we ran out of batteries on the camera and we wanted to save them for one last picture of the best part of the night. So we didn't get a picture of the pigs. Seeing the Big Pig is my favorite part of the fair. And the Big Pig at this year's state fair didn't disappoint. He was gigantic! His back alone was probably as long as I am tall. Rob guessed that he weighed more than a ton! We also got to see the baby piglets, they were so cute and Grace could relate. I think they taught her some of the noises that she makes in her sleep (for those of you who don't know, Gracie is kind of a noisy sleeper, she grunts a lot while she's asleep!). :)

The best part of the fair was of course the RODEO!!! :) It really wouldn't have been summer had we not attended at least one rodeo, so we were glad that we got to go to this one.
Gracie doesn't look too happy to be here at the rodeo, but don't let the picture fool you, it was the highlight of her day! We had a great time watching the cowboys get bucked. It was pretty entertaining because to start the night off, a bronc bucked himself right over with the cowboy still riding him! It was kind of scary to see the bronc on his side with the cowboy pinned underneath him. Then later, a bull bucked so hard, he bucked himself right over onto his side as well! Luckily that cowboy had already fallen off! I had never seen that before, and to see two animals do it was pretty exciting.

Grace's favorite part was the mutton busting. She was taking notes so that when she's old enough she can try to ride a sheep at the rodeo too!

The most interesting moment came when as we were just sitting in our seats enjoying the show, a very, very drunk old cowboy fell on top of me. He just pretty much collapsed into my lap and man, could you smell the alcohol! I think he was pretty embarrassed, and he held on tightly to his buddy the whole rest of the way down the stairs.
