Scentimental

It's going to be a happy day. This morning I went out to weed the garden and realized that it was so sunny that I needed to go back in and apply sunscreen. Sunscreen is very likely my favorite smell. Possibly because I was blessed with the very fairest of skin or possibly because I was raised in the uni-seasonal sunny California. Whatever the reason, I love it. It conjures up memories of camping and beaching and swimming and playing in the sun. I love putting sunscreen on because it makes me want to go out and do something fun. It reminds me of Ashley Judd who plays Jane in the movie Someone Like You when she tells the doc that she wants her erotic nose brain, or amygdala removed, "the organ that processes erotic senses deep within my nasal cavity that then connects to memory. Well let me see if I can explain this. I had a boyfriend that smelled really really good. Like soap, fresh laundry and vanilla and whenever I smell any of those things I'm reminded of my boyfriend and how happy we were and he dumped me for no good reason and I get really sad and angry and before I know it I am in the throws of an all out emotional breakdown and I was just thinking that if I could short circuit my nose somehow, I might actually have a chance of living a semi-normal life someday." The smell of sunscreen does just the opposite for me - it makes me happy and gets me excited for things to come. And really, I don't think that her life would be any happier without her nose brain. How could life be more wonderful without the smells that make you think happy thoughts, like cookies baking in the oven or earth after the rain or freshly applied sunscreen? My nose brain in currently on overload making me look forward to more gardening, running 5Ks, Cherry Hill, Jalama, The Spruces and so many more fun adventures that are in store for our summer.

I'm glad I'm not the only good Mormon girl who loves that movie. That is one of my favorite quotes!
